RevoluSun Vice President, Richie Bonney, talks about battery storage, some common misconceptions, and why having storage can be a great option for your home.
Battery Storage Misconceptions Transcript
Hi, my name is Richie Bonney, VP of Sales here at RevoluSun, and today I’d like to talk to you a little bit about back-up battery storage.
So, a common misconception is that if you have solar panels and the grid goes down, your house still has power and is operating because of the power being produced by your solar system. That’s actually not the case, because we don’t want to endanger utility line workers if they’re working on downed power lines. However, if you have a backup battery for your solar system, you can continue to operate your system when the grid goes down, and it will serve as a backup generator, essentially, that allows you to maintain power at your home in the event of an outage.
The second misconception is that people are actually going “off grid” with their backup battery systems. While that is technically possible, it really doesn’t make sense financially, because in order to realize the benefits and the incentives from the state, you still need to remain grid-tied.
So, if you have a solar system or are looking into a solar system, a backup battery can be a great option that allows you to maintain power when the grid is down and provide you and your family some resilience for years to come.
